As a small family run independent business based in Bristol with over 35 years of experience, we have a pretty good knowledge of the top spots in Bristol.  

This month, the JS Reakes team is sharing some of our go-to independent businesses in Bristol. Not only to inspire your summer plans, but to encourage everyone to support the brilliant small businesses that make Bristol such a unique and vibrant city. 

 

Top spots for drinks and beer gardens

 

• The Spotted Cow, North Street, Bedminster.
  If you’re after a great summer beer garden, The Spotted Cow is the place to be. It’s ideal for a weekend drink with friends or a post-work unwind in the sun. 
• The Orchard Inn, Spike Island.
  A perfect spot to get a taste of some proper west country cider. Known for its authentic selection and welcoming atmosphere, it’s a must-visit for a proper local pint. 
• The Swan Inn, Hanham.
  This charming, family-run pub offers a beautiful outdoor space and regular live entertainment. It’s a community favourite with bags of character, perfect for a relaxed evening out. 
• The Nova Scotia, Spike Island.
  The Nova Scotia is a historic harbourside pub with a stunning location. A great place to catch the sun with a pint.

• Root, Wapping Wharf.
  Tucked inside Cargo at Wapping Wharf, Root is a cosy spot offering seasonal small plates that are perfect for sharing.  
• Nutmeg, Clifton Village & Nutmeg Street Food, St Augustine’s Parade.
  Nutmeg offers Indian cuisine in two forms: a dining experience in Clifton and a street food-inspired option in the city centre. Whichever you choose, you’re in for bold flavours and top-notch service. 
• Beerd, St Michael’s Hill.
  Beerd offers the perfect combination of beer and pizza. With a fantastic selection of brews and delicious pizzas, it’s a casual spot that never disappoints. 
• Urban Tandoor, Clifton & City Centre.
  Known for its entertaining presence and outstanding Indian food, Urban Tandoor delivers a meal that’s both delicious and fun. It’s a Bristol favourite for good reason.
• St Nicholas Market, Old City.
  Nestled in the heart of the Old City, it’s packed with independent food stalls and shops. Whether you’re after a quick bite or a bit of a browse, it’s the perfect location.
