Read MoreWe wish you a Happy Christmas here at JS Reakes. We know we’ve been looking forward to the holidays and we hope you are too! For this month we thought we would look back on some highlights of the year here at JS Reakes.
Firstly, we would like to mention the success of the Hatchet since JW Bassett took over ownership earlier this year. Its great to see a classic Bristol pub thrive and continue providing a great venue for the public. Speaking of Pubs our article on the Market Rent Only option that was introduced back in 2016 explored how the change has impacted the industry since its inception. It also explained how it works and how it could apply to a publican.
Covid-19 has had a huge impact on our sector as it has on all areas of life. The changes to office space, negotiating rent and the nightlife industry have been discussed by us this year and last. We thought we’d give a quick recap to some of those changes that we’ve previously talked about.
Covid-19 has impacted our ability to conduct business, with the inability to meet clients or visit properties in person. We are hoping that the Omicron variant doesn’t disrupt our ability once again. However, the future of the pandemic is unpredictable.
While Covid-19 has altered the ways we conduct business and impacted the future of all sectors, there is a continued need for housing and commercial developments. We explored this earlier this year by looking at developments planned and currently being developed in Bristol. We also explored the benefits of investing in industrial units due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Not only that, but we also looked at how they are likely to be good long-term investments.
Perhaps one of the most impacted sectors from Covid-19 was the nightlife sector. We covered the potential future of nightclubs and the nightlife industry back in August. With its steady decline from 2001 and dramatic loss during the pandemic. Hopefully, now that restrictions have been eased, the nightlife industry can re-grow back to pre-pandemic levels.
Outside the impacts of Covid-19, policies implemented by the government have been hot topics this year, with the social care reform in September and the agreements made recently in the COP26. These changes will undoubtedly impact businesses and business across the UK. It may also be a sign of further things to come. Especially, with post-pandemic economic recovery needed and climate change becoming an increasingly pressing issue for the government.
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has marred the year. However, we are hopeful that next year will be better, we wish you a very merry Christmas from JS Reakes.
